Previously, I recommended the usual type of safety shears. Example A recent instructor I had
shared their experience with this kind of shear often being ineffective when needing to cut more than one rope, and instead opted for a curved blade with a grip for increased cutting ability, grip, and speed. Example 2
I bought a similarly shaped scuba line cutter and tested each option. With the line cutter, I was able to cut through 2 uplines in less than 5 seconds, while with
the safety shears I had to stop due to hand pain before finishing at 1 minute of cutting. The difference was more than enough for me to switch to using this style of cutter completely, and I urge others to try both and make their own conclusions.
